Mini Summit I: Innovation in the Post-Acute Care Delivery Model and COVID-19 Implications
This mini summit will explore several innovative care delivery models in the post-acute space. Speakers will discuss their organizations and outcomes they deliver to positively impact downstream cost. The session will end with a group discussion that examines each organization individually and how, through collaboration, these outcomes may be enhanced.

Dr. Travis King graduated from The Richard Stockton College of NJ in 2008 with a Doctorate in PT and shortly thereafter joined FOX Rehabilitation. In 2010, Travis became the first graduate of the Fox Rehabilitation Geriatric Residency Program. In 2011 he became a geriatric certified specialist. Travis’s previous roles at FOX have been as a Regional Director of Operations and Vice President of Quality Assurance and Professional Development with him most recently being promoted to Chief Quality Officer. Travis has presented on topics related to geriatric physical therapy at conferences hosted by the American Physical Therapy Association and by the American Geriatrics Society, as well as guest lecturing for the Rowan University Medical School in Stratford, NJ.

David B. Nash is the Founding Dean Emeritus and the Dr. Raymond C. and Doris N. Grandon Professor of Health Policy at the Jefferson College of Population Health (JCPH). His 11-year tenure as Dean completes nearly 30 years on the University faculty. JCPH is dedicated to developing healthcare leaders for the future. The College offers Masters Programs in Public Health, Population Health, Healthcare Quality and Safety, Health Policy, Applied Health Economics and Population Health Intelligence. After voluntarily stepping down as Dean, Jefferson Health asked him to take on some additional responsibilities as a “Special Assistant” to the Chief Physician Executive, effective July 2019. A board-certified internist, Dr. Nash is internationally recognized for his work in public accountability for outcomes, physician leadership development, and quality-of-care improvement.

Dr. Robert Pearl is the former CEO of The Permanente Medical Group, Kaiser Permanente. In this role, he led 10,000 physicians, 38,000 staff and was responsible for the nationally recognized medical care of 5 million Kaiser Permanente members on the west and east coasts. Named one of Modern Healthcare’s 50 most influential physician leaders, he serves on the faculty of the Stanford University School of Medicine and Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is the author of “Mistreated: Why We think We’re Getting Good Healthcare—And Why We’re Usually Wrong”. He hosts the popular podcast Fixing Healthcare, publishes a newsletter with over 10,000 subscribers called Monthly Musings on American Healthcare.

Robert M. Wachter is Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. The department leads the nation in NIH grants and is generally ranked as one of the nation’s best. Wachter is author of 250 articles and 6 books. He coined the term “hospitalist” in 1996 and is often considered the “father” of the hospitalist field, the fastest growing specialty in the history of modern medicine. He is past president of the Society of Hospital Medicine and past chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine. In the safety and quality arenas, he has written two books on the subject, including Understanding Patient Safety, the world’s top selling safety primer. In 2004, he received the John M. Eisenberg Award, the nation’s top honor in patient safety. In 2016, he chaired a blue-ribbon commission advising England’s National Health Service on its digital strategy.

Jan Kimpen is the Philips Chief Medical Officer. As the leader of the global clinical team, Jan works with 40 clinicians and medical PhDs with the responsibility for advocacy, customer partnerships, clinical research and medical consulting, and he is responsible for the annual publication of the Philips Future Health Index. He is a strategic advisor for commercial and clinical strategy, market reimbursement, R&D roadmaps and partnerships and M&A. Jan chairs the Chief Medical and Scientific Office Leadership Team consisting of the clinical leaders of each Philips Cluster (Image-guided therapy, Precision Diagnosis, Connected Care, Personal Health) and in which the markets are represented. Jan participates in the WEF Global Future Council on Healthcare, the American Heart Association alliance and serves as Chairman of the Board at Sanara Ventures in Israel. Jan is Board Member of COCIR (formerly president, 2018-2020). Jan joined the company from the University Medical Center Utrecht where he was a professor and chairman of Pediatrics before serving as CEO from 2009 to 2015.

Ted Kennedy is a health care attorney and partner in the law firm Epstein Becker Green, where he advises many of the nation’s foremost health care companies on key legal, regulatory, reimbursement, coverage issues and emerging policy changes facing hospitals, post-acute providers, government and commercial insurance entities, and life sciences companies. As an amputee and childhood bone cancer survivor, Mr. Kennedy has been an active leader in the disability rights and independent living movement. He currently serves as Board Chair of the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), one of the nation’s leading civil rights and public policy organizations dedicated to social reform and equal rights for people with disabilities. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Disability Equality Index (DEI), the leading corporate social responsibility and ESG benchmarking tool that scores and tracks businesses on their disability inclusion policies.

Dr. Maybank currently serves as the Chief HealthEquity Officer and Group Vice President for the American Medical Association (AMA) where she focuses on embedding health equity across all the work of the AMA and leading the Center for HealthEquity. She joined the AMA in April 2019, to launch AMA’s Center for Health Equity as their inaugural Chief Health Equity Officer. Prior to joining the AMA, Dr. Maybank served as the Founding Deputy Commissioner for the Center for Health Equity at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (2014). Dr. Maybank has taught medical and public health students on topics related to health inequities, public health leadership and management, physician advocacy, and community organizing in health. In 2012, along with a group of Black woman physician leaders, Dr. Maybank co-founded “We Are Doc McStuffins”, a movement inspired by the Disney Junior character Doc McStuffins serving to shine a light on the critical importance of diversity in medicine. She is a pediatrician and preventive medicine/public health physician.

As Associate Dean for Strategic Development, Dr. Skoufalos is responsible for facilitating strategic external partnerships and collaborative initiatives for JCPH. She leads the team that implements the college’s professional development and consulting activities, including expert panel roundtables, specialized training programs, conferences and symposia. Dr. Skoufalos is also the inaugural program director for JCPH’s new online professional doctoral degree focused on advanced practice in population health.
Projects in her current portfolio include the Philadelphia Diabetes Prevention Collaborative, a regional effort funded by the American Medical Association and an annual national competition (the Hearst Health Prize) to recognize excellent achievement in Population Health.
In addition to her responsibilities at JCPH, she serves as co-chair of the Steering Committee for Jefferson Continuing Professional Development, is a member on the enterprise Innovation Evaluation Committee, and serves on the Academic Advisory Committee for Jefferson’s Institute of Emerging Health Professions.
Dr. Skoufalos served as co-editor for multiple texts including Practicing Medicine in the 21st Century (2006), Medical Quality Management: Theory and Practice (2009), Health Care Quality: The Clinician’s Primer (2012) and, most recently, Population Health: Creating a Culture of Wellness (3rd edition, 2020). She has been the primary author of articles and editorials related to medical education, quality improvement, patient education and engagement, and staff recruitment and retention. She is an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Medical Quality and Population Health Management.
Dr. Skoufalos received her doctorate in Education, with a specialization in Organizational Leadership, and a Master’s degree in Education from Nova Southeastern University.
